From ancient times the gods of humanity dwelt among us. From the citadels at the hearts of the great city-states that humans built under their guidance they protected and taught us, raising us up to civilization as we championed their causes and upheld their decrees.

One hundred and twenty seven years ago, that changed. The Fall of the Gods was a sudden and unexpected cataclysm in which the gods and all their power disappeared from the world, plunging humanity into chaos in their absence. Since then, humans have had to pick up the pieces of a society that lost its foundation and build a new world, inhabited by mortals alone, without any gods to lead them or to reassure them that what they do is right.

It was some decades after the Fall before scholars began to realise a truth even more worrying than the continuing absence of the gods: the world is dying. The sudden disaster of the Fall was only the first sign of a slow end - since then, crops have yielded less, humans and animals have borne fewer children, and everything vital has begun to slowly fade. Though gradual, this decline has seemed inevitable, and no solution or even solid cause has been determined in years of study. One hope has been passed down the generations, however: the last prophecy recorded in Seqara, home of the oracle goddess, before the Fall. The Seqara Prophecy foretells that humanity will have one chance to save the world from this slow death, and that we will know it by the sign of a blue star falling.

Now, that sign has been witnessed. From around the world expeditions set out westward, towards the isolated town of Duskwood, where the star seemed to fall. Envoys of the great nations, self-interested adventurers, eager scholars and servants of the fallen gods are all among them. None know for certain what chance for salvation will be offered, or to whom - only that what happens there will define the future of the world.

Having come together on the rough road westward, people from all over the world begin to arrive in the isolated town of Duskwood. Nestled in the forest near the ruined citadel of Sufrant, the town seems to have had little contact with the rest of the world since the Fall, and few know anything about it. With the omens foretold in the Seqara Prophecy sighted, however, it seems that this small town could be where the fate of the world is decided.
